Students Attend Romeo & Juliet

Eastdale's grade 9 English class had a lot of fun on their trip to see the play Romeo and Juliet on November 21 at the Elgin Winter Garden Theatre. Students were surprised by how much humour there is in the play.

Students had a great time afterward creating tableaux to mark important points in the story.  Thanks to Matt Drappel from the Classical Theatre Project for his energy and patience in working with everyone during the workshop.

Bullying Awareness & Student Recognition Assembly

On Tuesday, November 22nd, the school assembly highlighted the fact that it’s National Bullying Awareness and Prevention week. The theme this year is Stand Up!
As well, we recognized students for demonstrating character traits aligned with the 'Seven Grandfather Teachings' (Love, Respect, Humility, Honesty, Courage, Truth, Wisdom). The teachings are also qualities that help to interrupt bullying and link to the notion both of 'Standing Up', and helping to build each other up.

According to our student school renewal survey, students told us that 80% of students felt they belonged to Eastdale. Let’s keep helping build each other up!

The first part of the assembly started with L.O.V.E. or Leave Out Violence Everywhere speakers, who addressed bullying awareness and ways to prevent. L.O.V.E.'s mission is to end the cycle of violence by giving young people opportunities to become leaders in their communities through positive engagement, skill based learning and self expression. Beginning semester two, the L.O.V.E. program will work with our students teaching them skills for positive expression and how to make a positive impact in the community.
