Wilderness Activity Group Conquers Kearney

Eighteen members of the Wilderness Activity Group (WAG) ventured to the Kearney Outdoor Education Centre from Friday, December 16 until Monday, December 19. The area had received over 80 cm of snow in the two weeks leading up to the trip, so the students got to experience a true winter wonderland. The students had a fantastic time snowshoeing, skiing, tobogganing, building snow shelters (quinzees) and most importantly learning team building skills and strengthening friendships. A big thanks to Mr. Lyne, Ms Akinniyi and Mr. Servos for chaperoning and leading the daily events.

On Wednesday, December 21st approximately 100 students, staff and honorary guests were provided with a holiday luncheon at Eastdale. The meal consisted of turkey, mashed potatoes, home made cranberry sauce & gravy, peas, corn and brownie's with vanilla ice cream. Honorary guests included: John Chasty, Superintendent, Martha Bartley (former Principal), Jan Main (former foods teacher) and Jennifer Storey (trustee). Kudos to Ms. Fineberg's students, support staff and Labrini for this amazing annual tradition.

Students Bouncing Back @ Skyzone

Bouncing Back To Health
On Friday, December 9th Ms. Hanoun’s PPL class took a field trip to Sky Zone Trampoline Park. Students had a great time filled with smiles, laughter and fun! They learned that there are many proven health benefits in trampolining and a ten minute bounce is the same as a half hour run. Students got to engage in trampoline dodgeball, basketball sky slam and jumping into a sea of foam cubes. It was a great day filled with fun fitness!

Student Artists At Eastdale

Rachel C., is proudly holding her amazing creation titled, “The Girl, The Cheetah and The Dog”. It is a wonderful, whimsical two-headed mask, filled with life.  It is crafted using a balloon, plaster strips, clay, paint and feathers. Her mask is accompanied with a  short story she wrote describing a young girl, named Maria, who acquired super abilities due to being bitten by a Rhodesian Ridgeback dog and owning a stuffed cheetah.

Also, displayed on the blackboard (below) in the background is Rachel’s intricate pen and ink portrait.  Rachel is very adept and works very diligently to acquire such excellent results. We predict one day that she could easily become an art teacher.

Allen A., (below) is gleefully pointing at his marvelous, vibrating mandala that he perfectly designed, using pencil crayon and marker in a detailed alternating pattern.  Allen applies gentle, loving care, with great skill, to all his attractive works of art.

Dec 6th Remembering The Need To End Violence Against Women

Students and staff participated in the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women and the White Ribbon campaign. During the week leading up to December 6th, students created a display commemorating the 14 women who died in the 1989 L'École Polytechnique massacre. As well students sold white ribbons to support this cause of ending violence against women.
Eastdale is fortunate to have a partnership with Peacebuilders who played an integral part of the day. After the assembly, students participated in classroom circle discussions led by Peacebuilder’s volunteer circle keepers. The discussions helped to bring a better understanding of this issue for Eastdale students.
Thanks to our staff, especially Mr. Lyne and Ms. Greenglass, who helped make this event a successful and meaningful one.
