Wilderness Activity Group (WAG) Walk ... The Don Valley Trail to the Brickworks

The first WAG walk was a wonderful success (see photos below).  We started our day by packing up all of our hiking bags with our snacks and lunch and then we set out down the Don Valley trail towards the Evergreen Brickworks.  The Evergreen Brickworks is an old brick factory that has been transformed into an amazing indoor/outdoor market and event space.  It has a beautiful natural area behind it- a meadow, ponds and a forest- that we explored.  We made grilled cheese sandwiches and s'mores on our cookout stove and watched hawks careening around the clifftops.  We also noticed tadpoles, dragonflies, monarch butterflies and a very large preying mantis.  All in all, it was a great day to explore the great outdoors.

2017/2018 Ward (15) Forums Message from Jennifer Story: Here is the schedule for this year's ward forums in ward 15 Toronto Danforth. Note: All meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 this year. This is half an hour earlier than previously.  Many school councils choose a representative to send to Ward forums to report back. Guest Chef Program @Eastdale

Once again Eastdale's longstanding partnership with Foodshare will continue this year. We will see the expansion of this partnership with the addition of the Guest Chef program. Every month, a chef from a Toronto restaurant will visit the school and work with students to create a health and delicious meal. Students get to help choose the ingredients and assist the chef in creating some magic in the kitchen. Along the way students learn about the different job opportunities that exist in the restaurant industry. September's session saw the head chef of Burdock  Jeremy Dennis visit. This opportunity is open to all students at the school. Parents and caregivers, if you are interested in having your child participate in this program, please contact David Servos.

Developmental Services Ontario - Toronto Region Information Fair

Developmental Services Ontario - Toronto Region is holding it's annual Information Fair on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at The Warehouse Event Venue at Downsview Park, 35 Carl Hall Road. Unit 2, Toronto, Ontario, M3K 2B6.  The event runs from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is easy to access by Car or TTC.  Click here for a flyer with detailed information and directions.  This event is FREE and no registration is required.  All Eastdale students with families in the MID program are strongly encouraged to attend to find out about programs, services and opportunities for students as they transition out of high school. 

Monarch Butterlies@Eastdale

This fall Mr. Servos' grade 9 and 10 science class have raised Monarch butterflies in the classroom. Students harvested milkweed plants to feed the larvae and were lucky enough to see the entire life-cycle of the Monarch butterfly; from egg to larvae (caterpillar), to pupae (cocoon) and finally to adult. Students were able to learn about the Monarch's migration to Mexico and when the adult butterflies emerged students hand released them from the roof of the school. What a way to start their mighty journey south!
